Prologue;

A Whisper in Bwindi
When the mist lifts off the misty hills of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, you hear a soft chant, a rhythm that seems older than the trees themselves. It’s the Batwa, the forest’s original keepers (the first conservationists) welcoming strangers with a smile that carries centuries of survival, song, and sacred knowledge.
At Binary Safaris, we blend this living culture with our classic wildlife adventures, creating a binary experience.
Nature and heritage.

Who Are the Batwa?

  • – Indigenous Pygmy people of the Albertine Rift valley (Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo).
    – Historically they’re hunter‑gatherers living off honey, wild yams, and forest medicine.
    – They were Evicted from Bwindi & Mgahinga in the 1990s for gorilla conservation, now settled on the forest edges.
    – Though they were promised land and shelter it has been claimed that they never gotten this so in regard to get food and where to sleep they decided to live on the edges of the forest where by the can still get foods from swamps such as yarns and red ginger.
    – They live in grass thatched houses as they find it expensive to earn a living.
    – The Population is 2,500 in Uganda (Batwa), smaller groups elsewhere.
